Before joining Singularity University as General Counsel, Joey worked at two different law firms. At the global firm of Latham & Watkins, Joey gained a broad range of experience across both litigation and corporate work before focusing his practice on securities laws and capital markets transactions for investment banks, public companies, and private investment vehicles. At the San Francisco boutique of Adler & Colvin, Joey provided tax, transactional, and general corporate counsel to foundations, nonprofits, benefit corporations, and other social enterprises.
Joey has published on operating tandem for profits and nonprofits, has been a guest speaker on social enterprise and impact investing at Stanford and Northern California Grant Makers, and has served as an adjunct professor on nonprofit and social enterprise topics at the University of San Francisco. He is also a angel investor member of the mission markets social investing platform.
Joey is the Development Committee Chair of the Board of Directors of the Center for Justice and Accountability, a San Francisco-based human rights organization and an active member of San Francisco’s improvisational comedy community. He holds a BA in Political Science and History from Texas A&M University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.
